These clients and their design & build project were such a joy to work with - they had just purchased this home and were remodeling and building an addition. They wanted a master plan that incorporated the adjoining parcel of land - which is an old formal garden that became a part of this property. They also wanted a raised patio area with access to the formal garden area - and wanted to capitalize on that gorgeous view. Neighbors were situated closely behind their property and that made privacy and consideration a priority. A firepit to enjoy on cool and fall evenings would give them a Vermont feel - as they spent a lot of time between Vermont and Virginia they wanted to feel at home and get the best of both worlds. The house and formal garden enclosed by beautiful stone walls, so we chose a product that looks like stone to build the fire pit and raised patio. We used existing green stone that we found on the property to create stone pathways leading to the fire pit and formal garden. The owners travel schedule would make watering an issue so we had an irrigation system installed to ensure they had one less thing to be concerned with while away.
The original plan included an existing larger red maple the client wanted to relocate. Once the tree was removed from it's original location, we had Bartlett Tree Company come in and inspect it to ensure it would survive. Sadly, as happens with most transplants, the tree was determined to not be viable and had to be replaced. The silver lining was the beautiful and creative addition of the small maple in the center of the circle pathway.
This project was made even more fun by the fact that the clients were so easy to work with when we were suggesting alternatives when things could not go the way they planned.
